Sweet Pea and her two month old  paint colt were two of seven malnourished horses found at a Somerset property on Sunday July 15th. They were released to the Perry County Humane Society (PCHS) by their owner Melinda Burkholder after the organization responded to complaints about the animals from several neighboring residents.   Sweet Pea weighed 875 lbs and scored a 2 on the Hennekee body condition scoring chart. The vet determined that she was 200+ pounds underweight.

                  August 2007    959 lbs                                               September 2007    1003 lbs

Jan Dolohanty of Newbury, Ohio spread the word about the seven horses to the people of Geauga County. Geauga Feed and Grain Supply purchased Progressive Feed and other supplies from money donated by their customers. Jan loaded up her horse trailer
and drove three and a half hours to deliver the feed.
