We are an Ohio registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Perry County, Ohio, approximately 28 miles southwest of Zanesville, Ohio, and 60 miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio. We offer refuge, rehabilitation and adoption to horses in need. WHINNY does not receive private, state or federal funding . WHINNY operates solely with community support and public contributions.
W.H.I.N.N.Y. endeavors to improve the quality of life for horses in need by providing them with the means to live out the remainder of their natural lives in the safety and security of loving forever homes; and to educate our children of today, who are our pet owners of tomorrow, about the importance of becoming responsible horse owners.
Sadly, equine abuse, neglect, illness, injuries and unnecessary death happen every day by selfish, uncaring owners who purposely deny their horses the proper care they so richly deserve. These owners, by far, are the worst perpetrators of abuse and neglect. These circumstances warrant immediate and lasting rescue measures and stricter laws to ensure that these perpetrators get back tenfold exactly what they gave out.
Included among these perpetrators are equine trainers who use harmful, mean, and over-spirited measures to "train" horses. Unfortunately, horses abused in this manner do not always show physical signs of abuse. Only recorded evidence of the abusive training may prevent unknowing horse owners from hiring these so-called "trainers".
Older horses , incapable of doing the things they once did are rewarded for their many years of unquestioned loyalty by being taken to auction houses. They can still be a valuble companion , but their owners can't or won't make the extra effort to give the horse the special care appropriate to its age and condition. Many young, healthy horses that don't live up to their owners expectations, for whatever reason, end up here too. If these horses were all going to good homes, this scenario wouldn't have a sad ending. Killer buyers, men and women, sit in the bleachers and calculate profit per pound of horse flesh. They leave the auction houses with their trailers loaded. Cherished friends bound for an inhumane end by slaughter. Are their owners being realistic? Do they actually care what its quality of life is likely to be?
Sadly many horse owners fall on hard times and temporarily cannot provide adequate care for their horses. These unfortunate short-term circumstances do not constitute abuse and/or neglect, and do not mar their otherwise spotless record of horse care. But when the short term circumstances become long term, and the horse owner refuses to take appropriate measures to insure the safety and well being of their animals, for any reason, then technically, that horse owner has stepped over that fine line and becomes quilty of neglect themselves.
We are always in need of sponsors, donations, and volunteers.

Sponsor: When you sponsor a WHINNY horse, you choose to play a role in its recovery and rehabilitation by donating money each month to its care . WHINNY is committed to its horses and your sponsorship helps us continue to be so. A sponsorship of $25.00 a month can make a difference. 100% of your money will be used on the horse of your choice. Your support of our organization is important to us.
Volunteer: It is hard work running any rescue The list of chores are endless but with the help of good volunteers no one has to suffer the burden of doing it all by themselves. No job is
too small or any less important than another. They all have to be done. Even if you volunteer one hour a day, that's an hour spent doing something worthwhile for a horse in need. Make one day out
of the week a family project day and volunteer the whole family to help clean stalls, wash water buckets or groom horses. Contact WHINNY Horse Rescue and schedule a time. mary@whinnyhorserescue.org
Donate: If sponsoring and/or volunteering are not something you want to participate in , you can still help our horses by donating cash to their care or donating products toward their care.
New or used product donations are always welcome. We "recycle" your no longer used barn supplies by putting them to good use in our barn. We never have enough halters, lead ropes, buckets, and
feed pans. Do you have any unused garden hose? We're always replacing ours. What about salt brick holders or old wheelbarrows & feed carts standing around or stored somewhere that we could put to
good use. That old saying, " One man's junk is another man's treasure." Well it's true! We treasure every product donation .
